When Antje Hruby, the talented founder of Hruby Studio, took on the task of redesigning a four-bedroom home in this picturesque setting, her mission was clear: to create a space that embraced the stunning Swiss panorama without falling into the trap of the overused 'Alpine chic' aesthetic.
And embrace it she did! With the help of Fend & Partner architects, Hruby repositioned the home to maximize its breathtaking views, natural light, and picturesque sightlines. Nestled among traditional Gstaad farmhouses with their charming frame gardens and open fields, the chalet exudes an authentic, tranquil Alpine vibe, seamlessly connected to its breathtaking surroundings.
But here's where it gets interesting: Hruby's design philosophy extended beyond the exterior. She crafted an interior that felt coherent with the traditional Gstaad aesthetic, using a palette of earthy tones and materials that would age gracefully, creating a living archive of the family's everyday life.
The heart of the chalet is an open-plan kitchen and dining area, a space that perfectly encapsulates the couple's desire for a convivial zone where cooking, eating, and living flow together seamlessly. Here, privacy and communication blend harmoniously, a testament to Hruby's design prowess.
One of the most intriguing features is the double-sided glass vitrines between the kitchen and dining room. These innovative partitions maintain visual connection and panoramic views, even when closed, offering a unique blend of privacy and openness.
And what about the lift? Well, that presented a challenge, but Hruby rose to the occasion, transforming it into a cozy 'cabin' with velvet wall coverings, creating a sense of plush comfort.
The staircase, too, was a masterpiece in itself, with a finely crafted metal balustrade adding a touch of refinement to the tight space.
