It's our job to comprehend how materials behave under varying conditions of temperature, pressure, and stress."
The new Mercedes W17 has been meticulously designed to excel under the biggest regulation change in Formula 1 history. This includes new cars, engines, and tires, as well as the mandate for fully sustainable fuel. Digital images of the W17 were released on Thursday, and the car is set to hit the track for the first time at Silverstone later that day.
Mercedes and the other 10 teams will then head to the first pre-season test, which will be held behind closed doors at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya next week. Teams are permitted to run their cars for a maximum of three days during the five-day test, with no independent media access.
Mercedes team principal, Toto Wolff, commented, "Formula 1 is undergoing significant changes in 2026, and we are fully prepared for this transition. The new regulations demand innovation and absolute focus across all performance areas. Our work on the new car, the long-term development of the power unit, and advanced sustainable fuels reflects this approach."
